Q. For those of us who don’t know you, who is Rebecca Marino?
I’m a professional tennis player from Vancouver, Canada.
Q. What does being a Nuzest sports influencer mean to you?
Teaming up with Nuzest seems like a natural fit: good nutrition shouldn’t be a secret! Nutrition is a key part of being an athlete—the fuel we put in our body is integral to our performance. Nuzest is dedicated to using the highest quality ingredients, I can feel confident knowing I’m fueling myself for optimal health both on and off the tennis court.
Q. How do you make healthy choices and avoid temptations when it comes to your nutrition?
The first thing is to make sure I’m nor hungry when I’m grocery shopping, that can be dangerous! Secondly, I try my best not to purchase any temptations while at the store. If I don’t bring bad food in to the house it makes it a lot more difficult to get my hands on! I also try to have healthy snacks on hand, like fruit and nuts, just in case I get hungry when I’m out and about. That being said, I do believe having the occasional treat is perfectly fine so long as it is in moderation.
Q. What is your favorite indulgence?
I absolutely love homemade, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
Q. What is your favorite healthy snack?
My go-to healthy snack is a bowl of plain greek yoghurt, berries, and a handful of granola.
Q. How do you stay active and fit?
My job is what keeps me fit! The bulk of time is spent playing tennis; either tournaments or training. To supplement this, I also spend time in the gym for weights and cardio. I enjoy switching up my training routine by cycling outdoors and swimming.
Q. What is your favorite form of exercise?
I love to do yoga in my spare time, and I try to go to a class at least once a week if possible. I find focusing on my mind and breath very grounding and calming.
Q. Aside from being a tennis superstar, what do you do for fun?
When I’m home, I’m part of a weekly trivia team with my friends. I also love getting out in nature by taking my dogs for walks in the local forests. And when I’m traveling for competitions, I enjoy listening to podcasts and taking half a day to explore the city I’m in.
Q. What advice do you have for people wanting to kick-start a healthy lifestyle or to pump up their nutrition?
Wanting to make a lifestyle change, but not knowing where to start can seem like a daunting process. Instead of trying to change everything at once, I would recommend trying to make gradual changes. Over time these small changes compound, and you’ve made more progress that you realized! That being said, it can also be easy to get frustrated or down on yourself if you’re not reaching your lifestyle of nutrition goals immediately. Be kind to yourself on your journey, use positive self-talk, and surround yourself with like-minded individuals who can support you along the way.
